Stephen J. Block
Principal
Stephen J. Block has been associated with Block & Company, Inc., Realtors since 1974 after graduating from Carnegie-Mellon University. He is presently Senior Vice President and department head of Block & Company's Syndication Division.
Stephen began his career in leasing office and retail space. This led him to begin renovation of several buildings in the historic Westport area of Kansas City. This experience led to development of several office and retail properties in cooperation with the city's various redevelopment agencies. A recent accomplishment is the completion of the 400,000 square foot, $80 million Midtown Redevelopment project located at 40th and Mill Streets, and the southeast corner of Main Street and Linwood Boulevard in Kansas City, Missouri. This project has been recognized nationally as an innovative approach to inner-city revitalization. He is also involved with the Union Hill redevelopment project, a 12-block area at 31st and Main in Kansas City, Missouri. This mixed-use development consists of retail, hotel and office uses complementing new and renovated single and multi-family residential properties.
Mr. Block is thoroughly knowledgeable in all aspects of real estate brokerage, development, construction, financing, syndication, leasing and marketing. He has been quoted on numerous occasions in well-known magazines, including The Wall Street Journal, Midwest Real Estate News, the Kansas City Business Journal, the Kansas City Star, and other publications.
Mr. Block has been involved in numerous civic organizations, including Kansas City Missouri Chamber of Commerce, Olathe Chamber of Commerce, Broadway Westport Community Association, Main Street Special Review District, Main Street Corridor Development Corporation and Society for Contemporary Photography.
Among his work in real estate investment and development, Stephen has been involved in the syndication of over 60 partnerships with property value in excess of $250 million. These properties include office, retail, industrial, and single-tenant net-leased properties.
A native of Kansas City, Stephen is a 1969 graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School. He attended Carnegie-Mellon University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1973.
He is a Life Member of the Missouri Million Dollar Club and has received numerous awards and citations from various development agencies including Urban Design Awards and Economic Development Cornerstone Awards.
